We’d probably be justified in calling them angels. Then an audible voice was heard from heaven saying, “Let us remove hence.” It’s almost exactly the same phenomenon that took place when God left Jerusalem in Ezekiel’s time (Ezek. 10). It seems to me that the most natural reading of Matthew 24:29–35 would be that everything Jesus said would happen has already taken place in history.
